Portland, największe miasto stanu Oregon, słynącego z deszczowego klimatu, zaskoczyło przepiękną pogodą. Kolory jesieni mieniły się w słońcu nadając niesamowitego klimatu licznym parkom i ogrodom znajdującym się w mieście. To był doskonały dzień, by odwiedzić ogród japoński, chiński oraz przespacerować się po centrum.

Portland, the largest city in the state of Oregon, famous for its rainy climate, surprised with a beautiful weather. Autumn colors shimmered in the sun, giving amazing atmosphere to numerous parks and gardens located in the city. It was a perfect day to visit the Japanese and Chinese gardens and walk through the center.
Nasi znajomi, którzy przeprowadzili się z Polski do Oregonu tego dnia towarzyszyli mi w zwiedzaniu. Zaproponowali, że wizytę w mieście warto rozpocząć od Pittock Mansion. To położona na wzgórzu rezydencja, z której rozciąga się panorama na całe Portland. W oddali widać było Mt. Hood - najwyższą górę stanu Oregon.

Our friends who have moved from Poland to Oregon have accompanied me that day. They suggested that a visit to the town we should start from Pittock Mansion. This residence is situated on a hill, which offers a panoramic view of the entire Portland. In the distance you could see Mt. Hood - the highest mountain in the state of Oregon.

Kolejnym przystankiem był
Lan Su Chinese Garden. Za $9 za osobę przenoszeni jesteśmy do Chin w pigułce. Sadzawki, małe wodospady, ciekawe rośliny oraz typowa architektura chińska. Wszystko składa się na niesamowity klimat, szkoda tylko, że ogród jest dość mały. Na miejscu pewien azjatycki turysta nalegał, aby zrobić mu zdjęcie. Gdy zobaczył jakie zdjęcie zrobiłem mu i jego żonie, skwasił się. Zapytałem, czy chciałby żebym powtórzył ujęcie, na co ucieszony przytaknął i ustawił się ponownie. Ujęcie powtórzyliśmy kilkakrotnie, ale chyba i tak nie był zadowolony. No cóż, nie każdemu się da się dogodzić w 100%.

The next stop was the
Lan Su Chinese Garden. For $ 9 per person we are walking into China in a nutshell. Ponds, small waterfalls, interesting plants and typical Chinese architecture. Everything is made for an incredible atmosphere, just a pity that the garden is quite small. In the garden one Asian tourist who I spotted insisted that I need to take the perfect picture for him. When I showed him the picture I took he wasn't happy at all. I asked if he would like me to repeat the shot. He pleased nodded and I took the shot again. I repeated this several times and probably he still was not happy with the pictures. Well, not everyone can be pleased to 100%.

Po Chinese Garden namówiłem wycieczkę na spacer po centrum Portland. Przypominało mi ono trochę centrum San Francisco, jednak było tu więcej przestrzeni. W SF ulice są bardzo wąskie i spacer między wysokimi ścianami kamienic jest nieco klaustrofobiczny. W Portland podobało mi się to, że przestrzeni było więcej, przez co budynki nie przytłaczały, a spacerujących oświetlały promienie słońca.

After the Chinese Garden I persuaded my friends to short walk through Portland's downtown. Center reminded me a little of downtown of San Francisco, but here was more space. The SF's streets are very narrow and walk between the high walls of houses is a bit claustrophobic. I liked In Portland, that there was more space, so buildings do not overwhelm, and the rays of the sun lit walking people.

Nadszedł czas na gwóźdź programu -
Japanese Garden. To coś, z czego słynie miasto i jest chyba jednym z najczęściej uwiecznianych na zdjęciach atrakcji miasta. Niesamowitego uroku temu miejscu dodawała jesień, dzięki czemu kolory mieniły się niczym tęcza. W kasie poprosiłem o jeden bilet dla dorosłego ("For adult please."), lecz gdy usłyszałem cenę - $36 - stwierdziłem, że coś mi nie pasuje. Upewniłem się, że bilet powinien kosztować $9. Na szczęście, pan w kasie po chwili zrozumiał, że chciałem kupić bilet "For adult", a nie "Four adult". Chyba muszę poćwiczyć mój angielski. W sezonie jesienno-zimowym ogród jest otwarty tylko do 16.00 i w pełni ten czas wykorzystałem. Nie ma słów, żeby opisać piękno tego miejsca.

Now it's time for the best attraction - Japanese Garden. This is something of which the city is famous and is perhaps one of the most common subject of the pictures from Portland. Autumn added an incredible charm to this place, so colors shimmered like a rainbow. I asked cashier for one ticket for an adult ("For adult please.") When I heard the price - $ 36 I realized that something is wrong. I made sure that the ticket should cost $ 9. Then I had to explain that I wanted a ticket for one person and not even for these three people standing behind me. Fortunately cashier realized that I wanted "For adult" not "Four adult" ticket. I need to practice my English. In the autumn and winter garden is only open to 16 and I fully used this time. There are no words to describe the beauty of this place.

Na zakończenie tego dnia, wybraliśmy się do wietnamskiej-tajskiej restauracji Pho Nam. Specjalnością lokalu jest zupa Pho z wołowiną. Jest to bulion wołowy, którym zalewa się cieniutko krojone plasterki surowej wołowiny, które dopiero w misce przestają być surowe. Do tego podaje się drugi talerz, na którym znajdują się dodatki, których można używać według uznania. Do wyboru - kiełki, mięta, limonka oraz ostra papryka. Bardzo ciekawe i pełne świeżych smaków danie.

At the end of this wonderful day we went to a Vietnamese-Thai restaurant - Pho Nam. The specialty of this place is Pho soup with beef. It is a beef broth, which is flooded with thinly sliced raw beef slices that are "cooked" after filling a bowl with broth. Next to a bowl of this soup you get a second plate on which are additives that can be used as desired. These sprouts, mint, lime, hot pepper. Very interesting and full of fresh flavors dish.
